| Time
All the evidence seems to indicate that the universe has not existed forever, but that it had a beginning, about 15 billion years ago.
In 1908, Hermann Minkowski presented a paper consolidating the role of time as the fourth dimension of spacetime, the basis for Einstein's theories of Special and General Relativity This association of the fourth dimension with time rather than space has become a popular understanding of the term .
The creation of our universe is a mystery. This term signifies in general that which is unknowable, or valuable knowledge that is kept secret -Disciplina arcani. In the language of the early Christians the mysteries were those religious teachings that were carefully guarded from the knowledge of the profane. The origins of such practice may be looked for in the words of Christ: "Give not that which holy to dogs; neither cast your pearls before swine" (Nolite dare sanctum canibus : neque mittatis margaritas vestras ante porcos - Matthew 7:6)
Our focus is not on the creation, but in the celebration of life, and in its accomplishments. We honor life because we hold the product of creation in our highest esteem. We also believe that creation is a continuous process. What we see as evidence of “evolution” since our biological origin is a sequence of snapshots throughout the eternal process of creation.
Scientific Evidence
For those of us who (also) worship before the altar of science, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva is set up to provide experimental evidence either confirming or refuting the Higgs Boson's existence; a massive subatomic particle predicted to exist by particle physics and the only "Standard Mode"l particle that has not yet been observed. Experimental detection of the Higgs boson would help explain the origin of mass in the universe. If it exists, it is an integral and pervasive component of the material world. The Higgs boson has been called the God Particle.
